Ashton-under-Lyne Market

The history of Ashton market dates back more than 700 years, when the town's first traders established themselves and became the focus of the area for miles around.

Phone-number: 0161 342 3268/9
Address: Market Place, Town centre

In 2004 a fire broke out and the historic building was destroyed. The market was kept alive with the opening of a temporary building until the newly refurbished Phoenix Market Hall rose from the ashes in November 2008 - with almost all the original traders getting back behind their stalls.

The new market hall has just won the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Building of the Year.

The outdoor market ground boasts 160 stalls offering a further selection of goods alongside several kiosks serving hot food.

Every Tuesday, one of the region's biggest weekday flea markets takes place at the site and attracts hundreds of visitors each week.
